Wayne van Rensburg joined Syngenta in 2013 and today holds the position of Technology Manager, Syngenta Seedcare.
Wayne is responsible for managing the Seedcare Institute in Brits, South Africa, were they focus on seed applications, seed treatment recipes and quality assessment. His role also includes ensuring that all stewardship responsibilities are adhered to, with a special focus on waste management.
His favourite quote is one by Friedrich Nietzsche: That which does not kill you, makes you stronger. And perhaps this is the reason why, when he was asked to choose a super hero, he chose Batman, who also learned from a young age that our greatest glory is not in ever falling, but in rising every time we fall.
What Wayne likes most in his work in the agricultural sector and in his role at Syngenta is to work closely with customers to help them improve their seed application standards. “If we work together to achieve optimum seed treatment protection on seed, we are well on our way to realising better crop yields. That is our ultimate goal.”
He says his mother has had the biggest influence in his life - always believing in him and always supporting him. “She taught me to never give up.”
With a 13 year history in agriculture, Wayne’s advice to young people entering agriculture would be to determine what you would love to do one day, and then make plans to educate yourself further in that field. “Study in what you love to do, not what you are told to study. Go for your dreams!”
