Crop Protection Products
There will be 9 billion people on earth by 2050 and farmland is limited. By 2050, 4 billion of these people will be living in countries with water scarcities.
We are helping growers around the world to meet the challenges of the future i.e. grow more from less.
Syngenta plays a critical role in harnessing the power of plants to meet these challenges.
We are developing seeds that require less water and products that will allow crops to grow in dry conditions.
We are developing new higher yielding seeds and better ways to protect crops from insects, weeds and diseases.
What do different crop protection products do?
Herbicides remove weeds which compete for a farmer's crops for important resources namely: nutrients, water and light.
Insecticides control insect pests like whiteflies, aphids, mealybugs, thrips etc. Not only do insecticides keep crops healthy, they also are used to combat against disease spreading insects like ticks.
Fungicides protect plants from fungal diseases like powdery mildew, leaf rust, scab, citrus black spot, downy mildew etc.
Seed Treatment refers to the process whereby a fungicide, insecticide and/or nematode treatment is applied individually or in combination onto seeds before planting. Once planted seeds can become vulnerable to seed- and ground bearing diseases, early seasonal insects and nematodes if they have not undergone any form of seed treatment. Seed Treatments protect the seed and seedling during this critical stage of development.
