A new approach

Every potato crop deserves a more considered approach.

Potato tuber moth can be difficult to manage. SILVALIS® is registered in South Africa for control of potato tuber moth (Phthorimaea operculella) in potatoes.

Its active ingredient, isocycloseram, belongs to the isoxazoline chemical class and is classified in IRAC Group 30. That gives growers and advisers a different mode of action to consider as part of a well-planned insecticide rotation program.

PLINAZOLIN® technology

Designed to be
seen in the field.

SILVALIS® is a contact insecticide. After foliar application, the active ingredient forms crystalline deposits that remain predominantly on treated leaf surfaces.

Good spray coverage is important: performance relies on active ingredient being present on the surfaces where the target pest comes into contact with it.

01

Rainfastness

The SILVALIS® formulation properties help the active ingredient remain on treated surfaces following rainfall.

Frequently asked questions

The details that matter.

Clear answers for responsible and informed use of SILVALIS®.

01 What is SILVALIS®? +

SILVALIS® is a foliar applied contact insecticide containing PLINAZOLIN® technology at 200 g/ℓ. It is formulated as a suspension concentrate (SC).

02 What is PLINAZOLIN® technology? +

PLINAZOLIN® technology is the Syngenta technology platform behind SILVALIS®. It is based on isocycloseram, an isoxazoline insecticide.

03 For which crop and pest is SILVALIS® registered in South Africa? +

SILVALIS® is currently registered only for foliar use in potatoes to control potato tuber moth (Phthorimaea operculella).

04 Why is potato tuber moth at high risk of developing insecticide resistance? +

PTM can complete up to 13 generations per year, with an adult stage of around 7 days, enabling populations to build rapidly under favourable conditions.

Control is most effective against eggs and small larvae. Established populations dominated by late-instar larvae are harder to control. Repeated treatments under these conditions increase selection pressure and the risk of resistance.

05 How should SILVALIS® be used to manage resistance? +

Use it in a defined Group 30 window: no more than two applications, 14 days apart, then rotate to an effective registered insecticide from a different IRAC group.

Do not repeat or re-treat Group 30 applications outside this window.

06 What is the registered rate? +

Apply SILVALIS® at 200 mℓ/ha (40 g active ingredient/ha) in accordance with the registered label.

DO NOT exceed two applications per season.

07 What is the pre-harvest interval (PHI)? +

The PHI for potatoes is 7 days.
