Apply the Best on the Best

Cropwise

Syngenta South Africa is offering Western Cape cereal farmers a complimentary Cropwise Operations subscription with Miravis Aeon, helping them identify exactly where to apply the fungicide for the best return.

Cropwise, available in South Africa since 2023, is a comprehensive digital farming platform designed to connect you, the farmer, with your crop data to optimise efficiency, sustainability, and yield. It acts as an integrated "all-in-one" solution that combines satellite imagery, AI-powered diagnostics and agronomic expertise to help you monitor fields, make better decisions, and manage inputs.

As a farmer you know that not every field performs the same. Certainty about which ones have the highest potential can make the difference between a good season and a great one.  Cropwise uses machine learning to analyse multiple data layers per field, giving you a clear, data-driven picture of where to focus, for example, in applying Miravis Aeon effectively.

Miravis Aeon is a highly regarded broad-spectrum, systemic fungicide used for the preventative control of foliar diseases such as rust, powdery mildew and leaf spots in various crops, including wheat, barley and oats.

The Cropwise model pulls together satellite Normalised Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) images, weather data, soil moisture readings, and historic crop rotation to generate a yield prediction for each field. By importing crop rotation history, the model runs its predictions back in time, cross-referencing real seasons to validate its accuracy, before looking at the year ahead.

Actual yield data is not required - the model is already highly accurate without it. But if farmers do provide their historical yield figures, it calibrates against real numbers from their own operation, making predictions even more precise.

The result is a ranked view of fields by yield potential so that you know exactly where to apply Miravis Aeon for the best return, and where a more conservative approach makes sense.  This means less guesswork, more confidence, and every input working harder where it counts most.

"Getting started is simple. We help you upload your field boundaries and crop rotation history. The platform builds a picture of which fields carry the most value - and if you have actual yield data, we use that to make it even more accurate," says Jason Coetzee, Digital Agriculture Services Specialist at Syngenta South Africa.

Cropwise Operations can assist farmers throughout the whole season

"Growers can activate disease models to see exactly where disease pressure is coming from - so they are ahead of it, not reacting to it. Satellite data also provides real-time soil moisture readings per field - helping farmers know where the best soil moisture is and decide what to spray, and when the timing is right. And yield predictions update throughout the season, so every decision is backed by data - on the right field, at the right time."

Gert Claassen of the farm, Windheuwel, near Malmesbury, says Cropwise eliminates guesswork.

"I have been using Cropwise Operations and Syngenta products for quite some time now. The information it provides allows us to be more precise in our farming methods.
“I am grateful for Syngenta's support. It allows me to be a better farmer."
