CWO: Tools for effective monitoring of your crops' condition
Cropwise South Africa
Hi there,
Ensure you monitor your crops’ condition remotely and plan field visits efficiently with Cropwise Operations tools.
Histogram
The tool is available on a field's page.
It helps to analyze the Vegetation (NDVI) images and discover how many hectares and what percentage of the field area is occupied by a certain NDVI range as well as see these areas on the field map. As a result one can determine how evenly the crop is developing and identify problems in time.
Vegetation Change Analysis
Cropwise Operations enables the users to track changes in the crop's Vegetation (NDVI) Index over the last three weeks from a selected date as well as the crop's uniformity development within the field.
The Vegetation Index changes calculation in percentage are based on the historical satellite data analysis for the current year.
Depending on the NDVI data the system can recommend scouting the field and creating a Scouting Report.
As a reminder — Cropwise Operations uses data on the soil types and composition, moisture levels, biomass, weather data, images taken by drones, and satellite data to assess the crops' condition.
Depending on the region, the monitoring system includes up to ten satellite systems: optical, radar, weather, and the aerial photography results.
The users have access to the images with resolution of 250 to 3 metres per pixel from MODIS, Sentinel–1 and Sentinel–2, Landsat 8, and Planet Labs.
Planet Labs' images have the highest (3 metres per pixel) resolution and frequency. The images allow tracking the Vegetation Index changes with greater accuracy and identifying areas that require more attention, even in small and non–uniform fields.
NDVI Variability images help to notice deviations in plant development in time.
The highest value of the Variability means significant Vegetation Index difference within the boundaries of one field, i.e. 0.08 and more.
Cropwise Operations recommends paying closer attention to such fields.
For the Report Cropwise Operations uses cloudless satellite images with the Vegetation Index values > 0.1 that cover the field with the data fully.
The system calculates the standard deviation for the last five images. Depending on the standard deviation value the Variability, i.e. unevenness within the field, is distinguished from very low to very high.
