History

Syngenta is a leading global agribusiness formed at the end of 2000 by the merger of Novartis Agribusiness and Zeneca Agrochemicals and on 13 November 2010 we celebrated 10 years of technological performance in agriculture as Syngenta amazingly Syngenta's roots are not 10 years old; they are actually 253 years old

1758 A.D. our legacy, Geigy, established itself in Basel, Switzerland and over the centuries its descendants fashioned its technology to benefit the pharmaceutical and agricultural remedies industries.

Little did Geigy's visionaries know that one day their commitment to technology would spawn Syngenta International AG on 13 November 2000 as well as a new generation of visionaries who are committed to bringing plant potential to life through technology and innovative ways of working.

Syngenta has inherited the strengths and traditions of two excellent companies. However, it will have a clear personality of its own.

Our name, Syngenta, has two distinct roots. "Syn" stems from Greek. It reflects synergy and synthesis, integration, and consolidating strengths. "Genta" relates to humanity and individuals. It stems from the Latin "gens," for people or community.

So Syngenta means "bringing people together".

Our logo - the company's "signature" - is bold and individual. A distinctive feature is its integrated leaf which symbolises agriculture, life, new vigor, and growth.

Our colours, Syngenta blue and Syngenta green, were chosen to suggest water and plants, clean growth, and freshness.

We are determined that our public reputation will be one which shareholders will respect and of which employees will be proud.
